Birmingham is the WORLD'S second city for gig ticket sales
Our two arenas outsold almost everywhere else
The city of Birmingham sells more tickets to its events than anywhere else in the world apart from London, it has been revealed.
Birmingham comes second in a table of global ticket sales, outperforming other cities including New York, Mexico City, Manchester and Glasgow.
That’s because our city has TWO major arenas for gigs and events.
The Genting Arena at the NEC came in at number eight in the results from the concert industry body Pollstar, looking at ticket sales for January to June 2017.
And the Barclaycard Arena came 12th, meaning their combined ticket sales of 725, 217 outperformed other cities.
Acts to have played there in the six months include Take That, Black Sabbath, Justin Bieber and Elton John, as well as events like Disney On Ice and Premier League Darts.
NEC Group head of sales Ian Congdon said: “This is a time of considerable growth for us. We are now selling for a wider range of events - everything from Céline Dion, G-Dragon, and Stone Sour to HelloWorld and the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships - and these results reflect the efforts of the whole team here, to deliver world class content.
“To have both our venues in the top 20 proves Birmingham continues to be a destination of choice for live event goers.”

Birmingham continues to attract record tourist numbers, with more than 39 million people visiting in 2016.
Pollstar also has a league table of which tours sold the most number of tickets, headed by Guns n Roses, Disney on Ice, U2 and Justin Bieber.
